Seth Hinrichs commits D1!!!

Seth Hinrichs (6'7 SF MACCRAY, HS) has commited to coach Fran O'Hanlon and the Lafayette Leopards. Seth Chose Lafayette over 11 NSIC division 2 offers, and Division 1 offers from Eastern Kentucky, Tx Pan American, and Montana.

Congrats to the whole Hinrichs family, and especially Seth. Seth is the best pure shooter in the state, and has "put in the work" to get where he has.

Email to College Coaches

We use the Comet Showcase to help the underrecruited, so I sent this email out to 50 college coaches, it's been refined and re done a couple of times, but this is what they received. We've had a great response to it. Let us know if we can be of any help. We only send out 2011 kids, because 2012 kids still all want to go D1, and so local colleges don't start recruiting them much.

MN Comets Staff

Coaches, Here is a list of 25 guys who I think helped themselves at the Comets Fall Exposure Classic. Played well, and on teams that had success. This isn't in any order, save for maybe the top 5, who I really felt distinguished themselves throughout the day.Any questions, don't hesitate to call or email. thanks, MN Comets
25. Luke Preiner 6'4 Tartan MN. Did so many intangible little things, he really kept people off guard defensively, and challenged his team to play hard all day.
24. Neil Helgeson 6'1 Kimball MN. Great potential D3 kid, smart, fundamental, and a good shooter.
23. Dave Anderson 6'7 Lester Prairie MN. Getting some small D2 looks, kid is well put together, and fundamentally sound. active on the glass, and a good athlete.
22. Ibrahim Abukar 5'10 Apollo,MN. Undersized combo guard can flat out score the basketball. Comes from a great program, and will quickly go over 1000 pts in his HS career. If scoring is a short fall, he is a guy I'd go after.
21. Anthony Saavedra 6'5 Big Lake, MN. Undersized post who really get's things done in the post. If this kid was 2 inches bigger he'd have multiple NSIC offers. kid is fundamental, skilled, and talented.
20. Eli Guptil 6'4 Anoka MN. Kid is athletic beyond belief, his skill set is developing daily, kid is really putting in the work to make himself a great college prospect.
19. Corey Hennen 6'2 Minneota MN. Shooter, kid can really stroke the ball. Came late and missed the drills, but showed up big in the games. One od if not the best shooter in the camp.
18. Matt Elliott 6'2 Grantsburg WI. This kid did all you could ask of him, he distributed, led, made open shots, and was a big part of his teams success during the day.
17. Dylan Moorlag 6'7 Milaca MN. Prototypical power forward, with some nice features to his game including his ability to stretch the defense with his jumper. Needs to get stronger, and play with a little more aggression.
16. Blake Ehley 6'2 Zimmerman, MN. Blake consistently got to and scored at the basket, he is very athletic and can finish in traffic. He really has a high basketball IQ and is only getting better.
15. Brandon Geise 6'1 Zimmerman, MN. All he does is make shots, one of the two or three best pull up jump shots in state. Quick/high release, great rhythym shooter. Has to get better on defensive end, but his ability to score is hard to find.
14. Mike Stephens 5'10 Big Lake MN. High ball pressure, really got after guys defensively. His offense is also coming along nicely, as he hit some perimeter shots, and got to the basket as well.
13. Isaac Winters 6'5 Sauk Centre MN. Tough kid to keep off the glass, really competed hard all day, can finish with either hand, and can guard multiple positions. really think he has some nice upside.
12. Shane Bosek 6'5 Minnewaska MN. 2 minutes left in the final game of the day, and Bosek goes down the lane and pokes on 2 defenders. Kid is the most athletic outstate kid in the state. He can stroke it too. Very under the radar kid, but he can play.
11. Nick Bobb 6'7 Lincoln. He is very good, better than I thought. I thought he rebounded, defended and played hard all day long. Scored sometimes at will with his back to the basket.
10. Cole Mortel 6'6 Luck WI. He could be a 2/3/4 depending on the league he ends up in. Plays hard, well coached, and led his team all day long.
9. Max Watts 6'3 Chaska. Kid competes, you see why Chaska is going to be so good, playing with two HM D1 kids, Max get's a little less publicity, but he can really play. Better athlete/defender than I remember.
8. Adam Hjelter 6'1 Hutchinson, MN. Consistently ran a solid Point all day, got his teamates involved, and also went and got his points when the oppotunity presented itself. Kid can flat out stroke the ball, and plays with a confidence and swagger, I love.
7. Drew Preiner 6'4 tartan, MN. Kid was everywhere, diving all over the floor and really playing hard. Impressed me with his skill set and leadership skills.
6. Mike Reisdorf 6'8 Cathedral, MN. This kis is a 29ACT and a 3.93. He's skinny, and not physical yet, but he's skilled and got a ton of rebounds and blocked a lot of shots. Great outlet passer. I'm not saying a D2 kid, but this kid has a lot of upside for aD3.
5. Travis Rollo 6'8 Mayer Lutheran, MN. Kid has put on 10-15 lbs of muscle, looks the part of an NSIC big man now. Very athletic, and skill set improves daily. He was really good all day long.
4. Rodney Pierce-Owens 6'2 Park Center,MN. One of the best athletes there, worked tirelessly on the glass, hit a couple perimeter jumpers and did good things all day long on D.
3. Ethan Petrill 6'2 Shakopee,MN. Showed once again he can stroke it from deep. Showed a commitment on the defensive end I hadn't seen. Looks leaner and healthier than I'd seen him in the summer. Could be a guy someone "steals" late.
2. Aaron Zimmer 6'5 Foley,MN. Before spraining his ankle he was all over the place on the glass, hitting 3's, scoring in the post, working the high low with Rollo. Skill Set is high, sneaky athletic as he had a couple of dunks in the half court too. just getting back to health from a summer off, someone is going to be very happy to get him next year.
1. Kurt Moody 6'4 Pequot Lakes, MN,- Just get's things done, plays harder than most. a prototypical power wing, he offensive rebounds well, scores well, and defends well. Overshadowed a little by playing with great bigs and shooters on his AAU team, he is a kid who I would get on sooner than later, because he will be ready to help someone sooner than later in his college career.

Congrats Comets girls coaches!!!

Two recent Comet Girls coaches have been named head coaches at Area high schools. Sascha Hansen takes over at St. Cloud Tech and Jessica Lewis takes over in Foley. I am married to one of them, so I will see more Foley games than I do Tech games. Both women take over programs that have are coming off losing seasons, but have traditionally been above average. Tech had a great run 2004-2008 the last half of that coming under the old coach. Foley has also been good in the past.

Great to see more women coaching girls, I think both women were great hires for their prospective schools. You hate to see long tenured coaches let go, but the times are changing, and both ADs did well to get this caliber of candidate so late in the hiring process.

Fall Exposure Thoughts

Here is 15 kids who I think really helped themselves last weekend. This was an email sent out to college coaches who attended, and some who didn't attend the Comets Fall Exposure Showcase. This is all 2011 kids. The 2012/2013 fields were loaded though.

15. Brandon Geise 6'1 Zimmerman, MN. All he does is make shots, one of the two or three best pull up jump shots in state. Quick/high release, great rhythym shooter. Has to get better on defensive end, but his ability to score is hard to find.
